Crop Insurance 

When we first decided to purchase our own crop insurance nearly a decade ago, we did it like many farmers do: We went to our bank. But that day, as we sat there, looking through perfectly organized paperwork that was no doubt meticulously drafted and certainly followed the “rules,” we wondered … Is this really right for US?

Because it felt too cookie cutter. As if any farmer could walk in and be handed the same exact papers, sign off on the same exact plan. But farmers are anything but cookie cutter. We all have distinctly different problems and drastically varied needs when it comes to our crops and our livestock.

So why weren’t they asking us any questions? Why, with so many policy options available, were they not offering us choices? We wanted them to genuinely care about us, but it felt like they only cared about making one more sale. We wanted them to tailor a policy to fit our needs, not their own. We wanted them to look at this from our perspective. From a farmer’s perspective.

We simply weren’t satisfied, so we decided to investigate the crop insurance business on our own. We spent countless hours educating ourselves, sorting through all of the nuances of the industry and deciphering the details. We figured out what questions to ask and we found the right answers.

A year later, we were finally armed with the knowledge to confidently make insurance decisions for our own business. But, realistically, that kind of time is not a luxury that most farmers have. We thought:

“You know, wouldn’t it be more time-efficient if, instead of finding our own answers, we all had someone to sit down with us, learn our unique needs, and help us pick an insurance policy that caters to those needs? And wouldn’t it be nice if every farmer had an unbiased, sincere agent who could explain crop insurance to them in a farm-friendly way?

That’s why we started our insurance business.
